Affordable Legal Services to Maintain Your Income

As an independent contractor, it’s up to you to protect your driving record and maintain a safe vehicle. If you get a speeding ticket or are involved in an accident, the company you drive for will not provide legal advice or representation. You’re on your own. That’s where LegalShield Canada shines.

A LegalShield membership offers an affordable alternative to hiring lawyers directly.

Moving
Violations

When you drive for a living, the chances of receiving a ticket go up exponentially. Paying fines eats into your income and points on your driving record can disqualify you from working for popular ride share and delivery services. Here are common moving violations that often result in points.

  • Speeding
  • Failure to yield
  • Running a stop sign
  • Running a red light
  • Making an illegal turn
  • Following too closely
  • Failure to stop for a school bus
  • Improper passing

When paired with a personal legal plan from LegalShield Canada, the Ride Share and Delivery Supplement gets you access to local lawyers that will defend you in court for covered moving violations. Just upload a ticket through our app and let your provider law firm assist you. Knowledgeable provider lawyers can provide valuable legal assistance when you are facing a moving violation.

CRA Audit

Services

Ride share and delivery drivers typically work as independent contractors. That means you are responsible for filing taxes on the fees you earn and dealing with the CRA should a legal issue pop up.

If you receive notification of a CRA Audit, you will receive up to 50 hours of legal services related to items included on Forms T2125, T2042 or T2121 of your personal federal tax return.

  • Up to one hour of consultation with a tax lawyer within the first thirty days of being notified of an audit.
  • Up to 2.5 hours of representation and telephone conversations by your provider lawyer at the audit or settlement conference prior to a lawsuit.
  • Up to 46.5 hours of trial time or services for actual trial appearances if the CRA sues you or you sue the CRA after you’ve paid a disputed tax.

Accidents and

Vehicle Damage

LegalShield’s Ride Share and Delivery Supplement allows you to have a provider lawyer represent and defend you in court for moving violations related to accidents that occur when you’re engaged in ride share or delivery driving.

If the vehicle you depend on to earn a living is damaged by a passenger or other third party, you get up to 2.5 hours for your provider lawyer to consult with you, conduct research and review documents relating to recovering damages.

All other legal services can be obtained for 25% off your provider lawyer’s standard corporate hourly rates. No matter how you slice it, if you drive for a living doing ride share or delivery activities, the Ride Share and Delivery Supplement can protect your livelihood for a fraction of standard lawyer fees.
